Atlassian to end user tier upgrade and downgrades on their Server products and related apps

By Brian Furness on Jan 11, 2022 9:54:15 AM

Atlassian has ANNOUNCED THAT YOU WILL NO LONGER BE ABLE TO UPGRADE OR DOWNGRADE USER TIERS FOR SERVER PRODUCTS OR APPS after February 15th 2022

After this date, changing user tiers will only be available by moving to either Cloud or Data Center. This announcement has surprised many Atlassian users who were planning on running their Server instance until the end of support in 2024. This has created an issue for organisations approaching their current license timer limit and is forcing users to consider spending additional, unplanned budget to ensure they have room for potential future growth in order to not be in a position where a rushed migration is needed.

WHAT DID WE LEARN AT THE ACRONIS #CyberFit SUMMIT?

By Fredi Mott on Nov 30, 2021 1:43:51 PM

WHAT DID WE LEARN AT THE ACRONIS #CyberFit SUMMIT?

We recently sponsored the Acronis #CyberFit Summit at Acronis’ HQ in Schaffhausen, Switzerland, where we heard from many of the world’s leading IT cyber protection specialists.

It was fascinating to hear so many insights into the cyber security issues businesses are currently facing and what steps are being taken to deal with them.

We thought we’d share with you some of the key takeaways from the event, in case you weren’t able to attend or simply wanted a recap, so you can better understand the nature of the current cyber security threat and manage this issue going forwards.

Comprehensive Cyber Protection is Needed

About half a million new viruses are being created every day, and these are expanding to target MacOS, Linux and Managed Service Providers (MSPs).

For example, we heard that new MacOS malware increased by a staggering 1,157% during 2020. And in September, Acronis [cyber protect software] blocked 27% more threats on MacOS and 31% more on Linux.

At the same time, software supply chain attacks have been on the up, exposed unpatched servers are being targeted and the Ransomware and Phishing threat continues to grow.

For a measure of the impact this can have, MSP CompuCom lost $8 million in revenue and paid $20 million in clean-up costs after it was compromised by DarkSide ransomware earlier this year.

Cyber threats are expanding everywhere, and this means that a more holistic cyber protection approach is needed to protect both yourself and your customers, which encompasses different operating systems and MSPs.

Digital Borders to be Implemented

Serguei Beloussov, the founder of Acronis, believes digital borders are likely to be introduced in the next decade or so.

He pointed out that many local and national state authorities across the world are introducing local privacy regulations, rules and standards. Furthermore, he pointed out that one-fifth of the global population doesn't speak English.

This, he believes, makes it inevitable that some form of digital border system will be put in place in the medium-term, so legal and cultural variations in different parts of the world can be reflected.

Edge Devices Must be Secured

Edge devices, featuring hybrid architectures, decentralised networks and autonomous execution - are increasingly being used in industries such as agriculture.

They make use of multiple devices managed by a smart controller, effectively a server, and generate lots of data. For instance, many Edge devices are equipped with high-quality cameras that can capture detailed images, and their brains are getting cleverer.

However, the networks they run on are not getting faster, and since Edge devices are increasingly being embraced in homes and offices, this raises concerns over the privacy of consumers and businesses.

Every Tech Advance Creates New Challenges

It is an ever-evolving industry that is having a profound impact on how we live and work. For instance, homes and offices are increasingly being filled with smart devices such as cameras, TVs, fitness equipment and appliances, while the use of robotics in sectors such as healthcare, manufacturing and oil and gas is growing.

But as IT becomes more complex, it becomes more vulnerable as well, and each jump in technology creates new challenges that need to be overcome, such as security and privacy issues.

However, the automation of certain processes and procedures can help to streamline this complexity and enable greater outcomes for businesses and their clients.

Managed Service Providers Worried About Clients Being at Risk

The vast majority (97 %) of MSPs [and SaaS providers] are worried about the threat of their clients suffering a cyber security breach in the next 12 months - and these fears may be justified.

In fact, figures presented at the summit showed that cybercrime has gone up by 600% as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, 49% of their businesses admitted that their clients don’t completely trust the security of their SaaS providers or MSPs.

This suggests that boosting confidence over this issue needs to be an increasing priority for MSPs and SaaS providers over the coming months.

Summary

As the scale and sophistication of cyber security threats continue to grow, it’s important for you to take steps to increase your resilience.

Have you included IT security in your wider business interruption plans? Do you have a strategy in place to reduce your vulnerability? Are you able to adapt your tech infrastructure and assets in line with changing threats and business needs?

With SaaS providers and MSPs becoming increasingly concerned about the threats faced by their clients, significant regulatory changes on the horizon, and different types of technology advancing at different rates, it’s vitally important for you to have a system in place that lets you deal with these challenges with maximum efficiency and minimal disruption.

Accxia's IUM-Partnerprogramm - Hohe Margen - Schützt das Lizenzbudget Eurer Kunden

By Brian Furness on Sep 14, 2021 6:14:52 PM

Wir wollen GEGENSEITIGEN ERFOLG UND WACHSTUM im partner ecosystem FÖRDERn .

WÄRE ES NICHT GUT, DIES ZUSAMMEN ZU ERREICHEN UND UNSEREN KUNDEN WESENTLICHE KOSTENeinsparungen BEI DER ATLASSIAN-LIZENZIERUNG ZU ermöglichen?

OK. Was isT Intelligent User Management (IUM)?

Accxia's IUM Partner Programme. Earn additional margin and become regarded as a cost saving advocate of your clients by protecting their Atlassian licensing budget

By Brian Furness on Sep 6, 2021 9:41:04 AM

At accxia - we truly believe that 'partner collaboration' is a key success criteria that drives mutual success and growth.

Wouldn't it be great to achieve this together whilst at the same time, saving our clients significant costs on Atlassian licensing?

If you share these values as an Atlassian Partner then we want to work with you.

You may have read in the press or across many social media platforms recently that Accxia have developed a ground breaking and dare we say "game changing" addon for Jira, Confluence and BitBucket that we call IUM or Intelligent User Management. IUM is available for Atlassian Server and Data Center licensing models.

Our market research validates that many Atlassian users we engage with have no road map or even desire to migrate to the Atlassian Cloud. Some of these reasons and comments we hear include...

  • "The Atlassian Cloud is far to expensive.... (With costs only set to increase again soon)"
  • "Many addons that we use and that are critical to the way we work are not road mapped at any point soon to be cloud ready"
  • "We do not want our company data and projects hosted in a large public cloud"
  • "We do not want to be 'driven' to a public cloud model"
  • "We want to 'sweat' our investment into Server licencing until 2024"
  • "If and when we do migrate from server licensing and against our own timeframe, it will only be to Datacenter"
  • "We want to remain in control and support our own Atlassian Eco System"
  • "We have Cyber Security concerns in moving our Data to a large Public Cloud"

For these reasons and many others, Accxia have developed IUM that indirectly delivers an alternative and far more cost effective roadmap than to the Atlassian cloud by remaining on Server licensing until Feb 2024 and (or migrating to) Datacenter licensing but with core in built functionality that means that those clients who choose that option can realise a significant cost saving through licence usage optimisation - adding registered users without having to upgrade the licence tier and in 95% of cases - DOWNGRADING their licencing model and reducing cost!

OK. So What is Intelligent User Management (IUM)?

In summary, IUM is an optimisation and cost-saving licence add-on tool that is available for Server and Datacenter licence and that can be used on Jira, Confluence and Bitbucket platforms. It allows organisations and adopters of Atlassian tools to operate and manage their Atlassian licensing on a 'per concurrent' user model, rather than the traditional per named or registered user model.

IUM works simply by automatically assigning Atlassian licenses to those active users, while un-assigning licenses from inactive users that have logged out in real-time. IUM manages only those 'occasional' users of Jira, Confluence and Bitbucket. All Power users and administrators are excluded from its management functionality and hence - always have a licence allocation. Those users who do not 'live' inside Atlassian during the normal course of their day (and there are MANY) are placed into what we call 'enabled' and 'disabled' user buckets. This automated process works seamlessly in the background, unnoticed by users.

IUM does NOT add to or REMOVE Licences. It purely manages and automates licence distribution and access availability across the Atlassian instance. Additionally, IUM does not need to communicate outside of Jira to operate nor does it capture or store any data outside of your Jira, JSM, Confluence or Bitbucket instances.

IUM App supports SSO2.0 SAML with and without auto user provisioning which makes it unique!

"UnView" Exclusively from Accxia: Driven by GDPR/DSGVO Compliance

By Brian Furness on Aug 23, 2021 1:42:28 PM

The Problem: Jira Work Logs Viewable By Everyone

As you know, Jira’s time logging capability enables users to log time such as work, training, holidays and sickness against issues. That information however is then available in a number of activity streams to ALL users... not ideal.

Certain types of Jira deployment require access to work logs information to be restricted to only authorised users. Examples of such use cases include;

  • Professional services businesses or agencies that collaborate with end clients using a Jira instance. Such companies may wish to log their time within the Jira projects but not share those time logs from within Jira with their clients

  • Organisations that have statutory privacy or compliance issues relating to personal information may also need to restrict access to viewing time log information

The solution

UnView for Jira addresses these requirements by restricting viewing access to work log information to predefined groups of users or Project Roles.

Additionally, the Time Tracking Details Panel visibility will be limited to users assigned to the selected group or Project Role. It will be hidden for anyone else.

UnView for Jira is an app endorsed and approved by Atlassian that when enabled, works transparently for an end user. They continue to have all the standard Jira features to add and view their own work log information.

Configuration is possible through an easy to use whitelist approach where an administrator determines which groups of users have access to view work log information.

SIMPLE, EFFECTIVE, PROVEN and EASY to deploy

Intelligent User Management (IUM). Protecting your Atlassian I.T. budget

By Brian Furness on Aug 16, 2021 11:43:35 AM

What is Intelligent User Management (IUM)?

In summary, IUM is an optimisation and cost-saving licence add-on tool that is available for Jira, Confluence and Bitbucket.

It allows you to operate your user Atlassian base on a per concurrent user model, rather than the traditional per named or registered user model.

IUM works by assigning licenses to active users, while un-assigning licenses from inactive users in real-time. IUM manages only those occasional users of Jira. Power users and administrators are excluded from its management. Therefore, those who do not 'live' inside Jira during a full-time working day are placed into what we call 'enabled' and 'disabled' user buckets. This automated process works seamlessly in the background, unnoticed by users.

COMPONENT 3 (LC) = Accxia Atlassian Licensing Instance Consolidation

COMPONENT 4 (APC) = Accxia's Private Cloud

ARC-M

By Volker Schulze on Jun 18, 2021 2:20:39 PM

In our quest to offer Cloud Native micro-services to our clients we have developed ARC-M (Automated Regulatory Compliance-Management), a centralised automated distribution solution for effective regulatory compliance management for  the financial services, gaming and betting industries.

According to a McKinsey analysis regulatory fines and settlements increased 45-fold over the last ten years, whilst operating income has decreased by 10% over the same period. Compliance activities tend to be isolated, lacking a clear link to the broader risk-management framework, governance and processes, such as compliance reporting and analytics.

Automation is one critical measure to curb a dramatic increase in compliance and control spend enabling a holistic approach to operational compliance management.

How to save up to 50% on Atlassian licenses

By Volker Schulze on Feb 25, 2021 12:47:45 PM

Reducing the Costs on your Atlassian estate is the name of the game since the Atlassian announcement about the end of life of the Server deployment option by 2023, and subsequent price increases. But how to achieve savings when license prices have gone up?

There are two ways to reduce your costs, depending where you are in your life cycle, and if your deployment option excludes the Atlassian Cloud. One is, that you want to stay on the Server deployment, but want to avoid a costly upgrade as your estate is growing. Or, you envisage very fast growth of the user count and could envisage moving to the Data Center deployment, but without the price tag.

If you are in the latter category, talk to us as as soon as possible, we can help you secure a 30% - 40% discount on Confluence and Jira respectively, if you upgrade from Server to Data Center. This offer ends in June.
