Atlassian continues to wind down its Server products and new price increases are announced for advantaged plan customers.

There are key changes being implemented next month (February 15, 2022) that will affect the vast majority of Atlassians customer base who are running Server or Data Center instances. Here’s a quick summary of the changes going into effect;

  •
  • - Data Center advantaged plan price increases (13-15%)
  • - Server advantaged plan price increases (10-25%)
  • - End of user tier upgrade and downgrades for Server
  • - No new feature development on Server (only security bug fixes for      critical vulnerabilities)

Advantaged plan costs have slowly been increasing (as designed) since they were introduced last year. They were intended to gradually bring customers in line with the then-new and current list prices that also came into effect in 2021. This latest increase will see Jira Service Management reach current list pricing at all tiers. The full breakdown of costs increases can be found here for Server and here for Data Center.

Server customers have been aware for some time that new feature development would officially end on February 15, 2022.  After this date, Atlassian will only be providing security bug fixes for critical vulnerabilities until Feb 4 2024 when all Server products will reach EOL and no longer be supported.

February also marks the end of Server user tier upgrades and downgrades. After the 15th the only way to achieve an upgrade/downgrade will be to migrate to Data Center or Cloud. Accxia is advising all Atlassian customers to review the number of registered users in their instance(s) and understand the number of spare licenses available (for new, additional users) and to take a view on if this is sufficient for your growth plans over the next 24 months. If it's not, you should consider upgrading your license tier before the February 15th deadline.

The alternative to this would be to implement Accxia's Intelligent Management (IUM) solution, which has the potential to not only prevent the need to upgrade your user license but to downgrade it and save money in the process. IUM allows you to implement a concurrent license model, also known as floating licensing. This means that a limited number of licenses can be shared by a larger number of users, removing the need to upgrade and in most cases enabling you to reduce the user license tier and all 3rd party apps running on your instance. Click here to find out more about IUM, or read our case study on how IUM saved an organisation $300k on licensing costs.
